Ages 2-3
Developing self-help and social skills is a major focus for the young preschooler.
We model and nurture appropriate behavior, manners, turn-taking, and responsibility so your little one gains confidence and independence. However, the most important facet of the preschool experience is a safe and inviting atmosphere for play, exploration and self-expression.
Children learn through play, and we encourage this as the primary vehicle for gaining physical, social, emotional, spiritual and mental development.
Ages 3-4
This class builds upon skills acquired in the 2 and younger 3-year-old class with teacher-lead, age-appropriate curriculum. In addition, children are exposed to the more advanced Pre-Kindergarten activities.
The older three and young four-year-olds have mastered their basic self-help skills and are now ready to practice independent learning by choosing work/play stations that include art, computers, ipads, writing, puzzles and shape/size/color sorting.
They participate in large-group activities where children sing, dance, memory poems, and fingerplays. They play games that use number, letters and sounds. Pre-reading activities are introduced through sight words, the children’s names and beginning reading books.
Ages 4-5
Our outstanding Pre-Kindergarten program is designed to prepare your child for kindergarten while reinforcing the values and self-help skills acquired in preschool.
The "Purposeful Design" educational curriculum not only helps children master basic skills such as identifying numbers, colors, letters, shapes, it helps children develop their reading and writing skills.
Your 4 and 5-year-old will enjoy art, science, cooking, music and movement, poetry, story time, outdoor time and many other activities throughout the day to enhance their learning experience. Our preschool graduates are well-prepared to enter Kindergarten with confidence.

Frequently asked questions
What curriculum do you follow at First Baptist Hummingbird Preschool?
When educational materials are introduced we rely on Abeka. Abeka is an age appropriate curriculum for preschool that takes into consideration the differences in motor skills and cognitive abilities among preschoolers.
What approach do you use towards education?
At Hummingbirds we focus primarily on play-based learning. Play-based learning is an educational approach where children learn through play, using free and guided play to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills.
How does my child learn through Play-Based learning?
The play-based learning method is intentional, with educators acting as facilitators to guide the learning process and integrate academic content into activities like building, dramatic play, and problem-solving games. The benefits include improved creativity, critical thinking, and social skills, as well as deeper, more meaningful understanding of complex concepts.
